Hockey on All Seven Levels

On April 6 Matt and I were fortunate enough to get an invite from a couple friends to go with them to a Coyotes game. The really cool part of this invite, you know, aside from seeing a game which you know I’d never turn away when given the chance, was that before the game we got to take part in a tour of the arena. Um, hello awesome!

For today’s post I’m just going to tell the story through some photos so you can enjoy the tour too. It was really super cool to have a chance to see the underbelly of the arena.

Stay tuned for information on a possible new story where a character might just find a body somewhere under those bleachers. Oh yeah that’s right. I wonder why our tour guide Rich looked at me funny when I mentioned it would be a great place to find a body. Because it really would be.

Touring Jobing.com Arena. Our tour guide asked if we knew how thick the ice was. I said 2". Pretty sure that was the answer but it might have been anything from 3/4 of an inch to 4". Regardless, we weren't allowed to touch it. In fact we were strictly prohibited from doing so by our tour guide.

The officials sit here.

The bad troublemakers sit here.

I aspire to be a ticket holder at this level of the ice.

I might use this on a book cover sometime if I ever get back to hockey stories.

Don't be up here if you're afraid of heights. Can't imagine that the guys in The Garden are two floors up from this.

Ow ow ooowww!

The Yotes starting goalie Mike Smith has been out for a few weeks but on his first game back he got the shutout.
Great end to a great day!

It was the first thing that came to mind when we walked out toward the ice, I kept one eye on the underbelly of the seats just in case. But I'm already formulating a good story in my head of how it could play out to discover a body there. Can't wait to finish this blog challenge to get back to fiction writing! Hope your day is great too Kathe!

As someone who played hockey, from when I was a kid through grad school, the ice is the first thing I consider when I think of a game. Then the boards. Everything else comes after that.

There are lot of corners in the higher sections of the arena where people could stuff a body, and it wouldn't be found for a while.

Blessings and Bear hugs!

That looks like an awesome tour! What a great gift from your friends, esp. since the Yotes still don't have an owner and the franchise is still in limbo. And you got a story idea out of the deal, too. How cool is that?

Did you get to see the locker rooms, too? Or just the rink part? And why couldn't they have included a player meet and greet? Seriously, after the crap that the owners and players put us through (again) they should have a limo pick you up and have Keith Yandle escort you to your seat.

The pictures are great, btw. Especially the one of the nets. That would make a great book cover for your 'dead body under the bleachers' story. Now get crackin' on that :-)

Not much of a sports fanatic, but football and hockey are some sports I can get into on rare occasion. Either way, a tour of any sporting facility would be something of interest to me.

Looks like it was a lot of fun!

I can just imagine in my head:

"What a great place to put a... I mean, find a body."

"aaaaaaaand that concludes our tour... GTFO!"

That's funny Rob because as only a spectator of the sport (I could barely figure skate no chance I was playing hockey!) the first thing I think of is the team, then the ice, then the arena that ice resides in.

I'm really wanting to write this story now. Can't wait for A to Z to be over so I can get on that!

It really was fun and I kept marveling that I'd been to The Garden at least a billiondy times in my life but never toured. Now that's on my bucket list :-)

I wish we could've seen the locker rooms. Unfortunately there was a game that night and so that whole side of the arena was off limits. No biggie though, the rest was still pretty cool. But that Yandle escorting me to my seat thing? Yeah let's just say Matt is lucky that didn't happen, he'd never stop hearing about it and one man can only hear about (one of) his wife's hockey crush(es) for so many years before he loses it haha.

Trying to get crackin! Once I finish doing the posts for this challenge that story is going to get developed. Thanks for the compliments on the pics! I thought my phone kind of sucked lol

Those are my top 2 professional sports that I could watch anytime too - football & hockey. I'll also watch women's gymnastics anytime I catch it on tv. Its like going back to high school and I like the nostalgia. Lord knows I couldn't ever do that stuff those girls do today. I'd have fallen on my head at least 100 times!

I know right? Poor Rich, I'm sure I threw him off a little :-)
